A recent survey of 204 nurse learners shows a major shift towards immersive virtual reality (VR) in nursing education. The study, reflects VR's growing role, indicates enhanced exam and career preparedness among participants.
Virtual reality is revolutionizing nursing training by providing interactive, scenario-based learning.
This method enables nurses to practice critical skills in a risk-free setting, covering a broad spectrum of medical situations, including rare and critical cases.
Conducted by UbiSim, the survey engaged over a thousand nurse learners and educators to assess VR's practical benefits in nurse training.
The majority of respondents, currently using UbiSim’s immersive VR platform, highlighted VR’s growing relevance in nursing programs.
The survey found that 43% of nurse learners favor VR-based simulations, with a significant number preferring headset-based VR experiences.
Additionally, 69% reported comfort in using VR headsets, with 75% affirming that VR simulations effectively prepare them for nursing careers.
VR's Advantages Over Traditional Training
VR's flexibility allows for anytime, anywhere access, reducing reliance on traditional, resource-intensive training methods.
This aspect is crucial for frequent practice sessions, leading to enhanced competency and confidence in nurse learners.
Christine Vogel, Lead Nurse Educator at UbiSim, commented on VR’s educational benefits, said:
"Our findings demonstrate VR's effectiveness in engaging and preparing nurse learners," she said. "Educational institutions should consider integrating VR into their programs for scalable, cost-effective nursing education."
Conclusion
The survey by UbiSim highlights a significant trend in nursing education, with VR technology proving essential in preparing future nurses. Its immersive, hands-on approach is shaping a new era in nursing training, promising enhanced skill development and readiness for the challenges of clinical practice.
