Wondershare has put an AI agent inside UniConverter 18, the new version of its desktop software for converting, compressing and downloading video and audio. Users can now type what they want done to a batch of files in plain language, and the software sets up the job for them.
The same update brings a Watch Folder, which converts every new file dropped into a chosen folder using preset rules. Wondershare announced the release on 16 October from Vancouver, Canada, though the software group is based in Shenzhen, China, and also makes the video editor Filmora.
Desmond Ye, product director of Wondershare UniConverter, tied the update to the growing pile of media people now handle. “We aim to make powerful media technologies more accessible, helping users streamline their workflows, achieve their desired results, and unlock greater value from their content,” he said in the announcement.
Wondershare also says it upgraded the graphics processing unit (GPU) pipeline for NVIDIA-powered Windows computers. In its own selected Windows tests, with no editing applied on top, that cut conversion time by up to about 90% against version 17, though the company adds that results vary with hardware, source files and settings.
New Tools In Version 18
The AI Media Agent, still marked as a beta on Wondershare’s product page, turns a typed request into a batch job and then confirms that the output meets the goal the user gave. Compression can now aim at a file size, a compression ratio or a quality level, and supported formats can keep subtitles and several audio tracks.
Audio passthrough copies a compatible soundtrack straight across instead of re-encoding it, so the sound is not processed a second time. Users can also cap how much of the computer’s central processing unit (CPU) a long job uses, which keeps the machine free for other work while files convert.
The product page applies the same up-to-90% speed claim to converting 4K and 8K video, the ultra-high-definition formats roughly 4,000 and 8,000 pixels wide, in high dynamic range (HDR), which carries a wider spread of brightness and colour. It also lists generative video enhancement and upscaling, which rebuilds footage at a higher resolution, as up to 15% faster.
Portrait processing, Wondershare says, now copes more reliably with faces that are out of focus or partly hidden. For photos, a tool called Auto Fix spots blur, dim lighting, washed-out colour and visible damage, then decides how to repair each picture.
Editing gains a blur tool that follows faces and objects through a clip, so people or items can be hidden for the whole shot. It can also strip out subtitles burned into a video, and an upgraded Video Eraser removes unwanted objects and moving people, then fills in the background.
Downloads now reach a user’s own eligible YouTube lists, such as Watch Later and Liked videos, subject to login and access rights. The tool also saves M3U8 streams, a playlist format many sites use to deliver video, and can pull YouTube subtitles in several languages at once.
Version 17, launched in October 2025, had centred on format suggestions, AI upscaling and subtitles in more than 145 languages. Version 18 shifts the weight toward jobs that run with less hands-on input. Those are the jobs marketing teams, trainers and video creators repeat every day, turning camera footage into files for websites and social apps or shrinking large videos to fit upload and email limits.
Wondershare also sells Team and Business plans for UniConverter, which allow commercial use and let an organisation manage licences from one account, with business pricing quoted by its sales team.
AI Credits Sit Beside The Licence
Wondershare sells UniConverter 18 for Windows and macOS as a one-year plan or a perpetual licence. Its product page lists the perpetual licence at $79.99 and $85.99 before discounts, and an anniversary offer cuts prices until 31 October 2026.
Each plan comes with AI credits, prepaid units that are used up whenever an AI feature runs: 600 with the yearly plan and 1,000 with the perpetual one under the current offer. Extra credit packs are sold on top.
Wondershare’s upgrade terms say the 500 credits bundled with an upgrade are separate from the licence and do not give unlimited AI use. People who bought a perpetual licence for versions 12 to 17 from Wondershare’s own website on or after 17 July 2026 can upgrade for free.
In its 2025 results, Wondershare said AI credit sales made up about 10% of UniConverter’s revenue. Across the group, revenue from its AI-native apps passed 130M renminbi (RMB), up more than 90%, and the number of people paying for those apps more than doubled.
Filmora, the company’s video editor, charges for AI the same way. Wondershare shipped Filmora 16 earlier this month, at a time when the cost of running AI servers has been weighing on the group’s margins and first-half results.
A Utility Tool Tied To AI Sales
UniConverter 18 adds plain-language batch jobs, folder automation and faster GPU conversion, and every speed figure in the launch rests on Wondershare’s own tests. Its AI tools run on credits sold apart from the licence.
That arrangement ties one of Wondershare’s long-running utility products to the AI-native business it reports as growing quickly. For business users, the practical change is less time spent setting up the same conversions again and again.
