Digital payment pioneer Paytm has bestowed upon Indian retailers, an Android-based point-of-sale (POS) pocket device to ease the load on digital transactions.

In a blog, Paytm announced the release of the ‘Paytm All-in-one Portable Android Smart POS’, which is enabled with integrated billing software, a camera for QR scanning, and 4G SIM Card support with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. The device has a 4.5-inch touchscreen, is 12mm thick, and weighs 163g. It is also equipped with a powerful processor and a battery that can last all day.

The POS device is much more powerful than the portable Linux-based POS devices available right now. It will be available for a monthly rental price of INR 499 (approximately $6.66).

Paytm plans to issue more than 2 lakh units soon in order to enable over 20 million transactions every month. The device will feature the signature ‘Scan to Order’ service, which is fast becoming a popular choice with restaurants and takeaway joints.

‘Paytm for Business’ app ensures smooth working

The pocket device is integrated with the ‘Paytm for Business’ app which will manage all transactions and settlements while also generating GST compliant bills.

‘Paytm For Business’ allows merchants to procure business services and financial aid like loans and insurance. It also holds a digital ledger, a ‘Khata’, to manage all transactions. This app also offers Paytm merchandise and is one of the most popular merchant apps today.

SMEs rescued by affordable digital services

‘Digital services at reasonable prices’ is a trending business, thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic, and Paytm is the latest company to bank on this bandwagon. The gigantic system of Indian SMEs, kiranas, and other retailers stands to benefit from this latest Paytm device.

“We innovate products & services that are aligned with our mission of enabling SMEs with technology-led solutions”, said Paytm Senior VP, Renu Satti.

“We are confident that this affordable pocket-sized Paytm Android POS device will enable everyone from SMEs to delivery personnel of Kirana Stores to collect payments safely. It is our endeavour to help merchants & traders to easily digitize their business operations, without any investment in technology or backend infrastructure”, she added.
