The deliberation over TikTok might finally come to an end, according to accounts from Air Force One. CNN White House correspondent Kaitlan Collins reported at approximately 9 pm local time that Trump had decided to ban TikTok.
Collins posted a tweet saying, “President Trump announces to reporters on Air Force One that he’s banning TikTok.” She continued the thread, adding, “Per pool, Trump said, “Well, I have that authority. I can do it with an executive order or that.” The pool says Trump made clear he was not in favor of a deal to let a U.S. company buy TikTok’s American operations.”

A ban might prove to be calamitous for the ByteDance owned social media app because it has already lost one of its largest markets – India. Losing the USA would only create problems for TikTok.
There were recent rumors about the app, suggesting that it was willing to bend and mold itself to fit U.S. regulations to bypass a ban. The New York Times even reported that Microsoft was in talks to buy TikTok.
However, all of this might be futile if President Trump puts his weight behind it. TikTok was on shaky ground for the last few days, but that ground just cracked right now.
