iPhone with iOS 14 beta version recently warned its users of suspicious behavior from Instagram. The popular social networking platform was reported to be secretly using the camera in the background. Users took to twitter and publicized that iOS 14 beta alerted them of the camera/microphone being ‘on’ even while they were casually scrolling through the Instagram feed.
Instagram, on the other hand, responded to the issue by citing it as a bug. They said that they are fixing the bug responsible for the unusual behavior in iOS 14 beta. “We only access your camera when you tell us to – for example, when you swipe from Feed to Camera,” according to its statement given to The Verge. They added that the application does not access the users’ camera in such instances, nor record any content.
iPhone users applauded the privacy breach alert by iOS 14. Earlier, iOS 14’s security features reported social media app TikTok’s secret access to the universal clipboard of iOS users. Later, the Chinese app came up with an update to the App Store to remove the feature.
Similarly, iOS 14 exposed privacy breaches from other popular platforms like Accuweather, AliExpress, Google News, and networking sites like Reddit and Linkedin. Later, Reddit and Linkedin took measures to stop clipboard copying practices.
iOS 14’s user notifications alert the user whenever a third-party app accesses the clipboard of the device.
