As per the reports from The Financial Times, Apple has curbed updates for thousands of Chinese apps belonging to the app store. They have been ignoring this major rule since 2016, that those apps which are not approved by the Chinese government should not be made available in the App store. The company has been pressurised by the government since weeks for the same. All the games in the app store should have proof of the government-granted license.
According to the reports, around 17,000 gaming apps have been affected by this decision because only 43,000 from the 60,000 apps in the Chinese App store have been issued with license from the Chinese Government.
Android has been strictly following the license rule since 2016, while Apple has allowed the gaming apps to be available through their App store even before their authorisations.
Reports from Financial times states that the biggest App store market for Apple is China’s game apps which account for the majority of the $16.4 billion revenue. The licenses for apps are granted after review by the government and are quite difficult to get.
There is no information about the reason behind Apple’s decision to curb the updates of these apps. Also, it is not known how Apple managed to break the government rules for licensing.
In February, Apple has warned their iOS developers to get licenses before programming the apps and in June, the company had again warned them to get licenses before the 30th of June. Now they have started taking actions for the same to keep their promises.
