Android flagships expected to become more expensive in the coming year

As the new 5G phones are set to conquer the markets, it is said that the Android flagship phones are going to be much more expensive in 2021. Reports from South Korea say that Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 875 is going to be costlier than its forerunners.

Flagships phones are the only ones in the market that are claiming to be a competition for Apple’s iPhones. The Snapdragon 865 , now priced at $160 will cost $250 along with the 5G modem in 2021. the Snapdragon 865 is already 50% costlier than its predecessor Snapdragon 855 and the processor alone is going to cost $130 excluding the modem.

The manufacturers will not have an option to buy the modem from another vendor and will have to buy the processor along with the modem. Qualcomm’s chips have been becoming more costly each year and this is another reason for the flagship phones becoming expensive each passing year. The end result for these increments is that, as the flagship phones reach the customer, it gets more and more expensive.

The source of this information is not yet confirmed and hence there are chances that it is exaggerated. But from the existing trends, it is believable that the prices will be high in the coming year for sure.

Qualcomm’s prices are getting a little out of hand and thus it is said that vendors including Google, are looking to replace the Qualcomm chips with other manufacturers. They have ditched the high tier Qualcomm chips in their flagship devices. The cost concerns have led LG G9 and Pixel 5 to be powered by Snapdragon 700 and not 865.

The purchasers for Flagship phones might face difficulties finding and choosing phones next year if the pricing situations go as predicted. It is also said that the Apple iPhone 12 ,set to release in the Autumn 2020 (may even shit to 2021 according to sources) will be less expensive than iPhone 11.
