A14 Bionic 5G is scheduled to start production by month end

Apple is expected to start manufacturing the A14 Bionic 5G, which will be installed in the iPhone 12 series, through TSMC, a semiconductor contract production manufacturer. The A14 Bionic 5G will be equipped with up to 15 billion transistors, and production will be a 5nm process. A13 Bionic’s number of transistors has made significant progress from 8.5 billion.

Apple’s iPhone 12 series could be the first smartphone to be powered by soc manufactured in a 5nm process.

Samsung and Huawei are also preparing a Soc through a 5nm manufacturing process. It is said that only two semiconductor manufacturers, TSMC and Samsung, have a mass production line in the 5nm manufacturing process.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note20 series is scheduled for release on August 5, but may have decided to adopt Snapdragon 865+ instead of Exynos 992.

Huawei is no longer able to place new orders with the TSMC due to U.S. sanctions. However, kirin 1000, manufactured in the 5nm process, has already been ordered and is reported to be delivered to Huawei by the end of September.

The A14 Bionic 5G could be the industry’s first Soc manufactured in a 5nm process that is in the hands of consumers. It is also Apple’s first 5G-compatible Soc. Of course, performance is expected to improve in addition to 5G support, but there must be many users who are not dissatisfied with A13 Bionic so far.

The next generation of A14 Bionic 5G will need specifications to enjoy new content that will spread in the future. Apple’s steady increase in LiDAR models is also likely to have something to do with it.
