BMW has launched the first Apple CarKeys in their new vehicles. With this technology, the drivers can now unlock their cars using their Apple iPhone or watches. BMW will now be the first automobile company to launch this technology in cars.

BMW calls this as the Digital key which is also known as Apple CarKey. This feature was announced during Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference. The drives can place the iPhone or the device on the smart phone tray inside the car after unlocking and then start their drive.

The company will set up the digital key through the BMW iPhone App for the new cars. The control for the key can be shared with a maximum of five users. The app has features that allow the user to control or restrict the usage by young or inexperienced drivers. You can control the stereo volume, horsepower and also set speed limits through the phone.

Other than the CarKey, BMW has also modeled their new cars with features like Apple or iPhone CarPlay software. This can be used to map the trips and also find the Electric Vehicle charging/fueling ports nearby. The Apple CarPlay gives its users the best possible experience and features when the smartphone is connected to the car screen.

There has been security issues regarding the key less cars, but the manufacturers are now working on preventing such car thefts. One of the methods used to steal the cars were to use keyless fobs with motion sensors.

BMW has always been ahead and updated in incorporating new technological advancements in their vehicles and never cease to surprise their customers. They were the first to integrate iPod compatibility into their vehicles and now first to enable Apple’s CarPlay and CarKey.
