Global shipments of 5G smartphones in the first quarter of 2020 and January to March were released on Strategy Analytics. Shipments have recorded surprising growth.
More than 24 million units in the first quarter
In the first quarter of 2020, the global shipment of 5G smartphones exceeded 24 million units. For your information, 5G smartphone shipments in 2019 were 18.7 million units for the year.
In 2020, we will be overtaking the year-on-year shipments in just three months. I think it’s the start of a true 5G first year.
Samsung and Huawei share nearly 8 percent together
Looking at each manufacturer, Samsung 8.3 million units, 2nd place Huawei 8 million units, 3rd place vivo 2.9 million units, and 4th place Xiaomi 2.5 million units.
The 5G smartphone is led by two companies, Samsung 34 and Huawei 33.1. However, the two companies cannot be helped.
The new iPhone, which will be available in the second half of 2020, is expected to be 5G compatible (the iPhone SE is not compatible with 5G). With the advent of the new iPhone, it goes without saying that Apple will take the top spot. A true 5G smartphone competition will be from now on.
