Yesterday, Facebook announced that they have appointed former Cisco executive Bipasha Chakrabarti as Facebook’s new communications head to lead its growing corporate communications and public relations mandate in India.

Bipasha Chakrabarti, as a part of her new role as Communications Director at Facebook India, will lead the communications charter of both Facebook and Instagram.

Ajit Mohan, Vice President and Managing Director of Facebook India said “Communications is a critical function for us as we continue to build Facebook’s story in India. We are grateful for the trust that our users, advertisers, partners, and the government have placed in us, and are committed to communicating openly and transparently.””

Bipasha Chakrabarti, in her last assignment as the Head of Corporate Communications at Cisco India, led the entire gamut of communications that included analyst, consumer, and technology communications. Apart from this, she has also managed leadership and executive communications for the office of Asia Pacific, Japan, and China. Facebook also revealed that prior to Cisco, Bipasha Chakrabarti was associated with Sun Microsystems.

Interestingly, this announcement came within a month after Facebook announced the hiring of Avinash Pant as their new Marketing Director at Facebook India in order to drive the company’s consumer marketing efforts.

It should be recalled that last year, the company announced a new leadership structure in India under the leadership of Ajit Mohan.

Within the last few months, Facebook has recruited for its key managerial and directorial roles across multiple functions under the domains of not only marketing and sales but also partnership and policy.
