If you are a regular eBay customer then you might have spotted that some sellers in e-commerce platform, lists their product images with unnecessary backgrounds. In order to help out these sellers to improve their quality of listings, eBay is rolling out a new feature that will use computer vision to automatically remove the background from the images. This means the main item will be focused and brought into the spotlight without any background disturbances.
eBay has named this feature as the “Image Clean-Up” feature. As we said earlier, it is powered by computer vision technology that can remove the backgrounds of images and replaces them with a clean white background.
This is a big step forward taken for the sellers of the e-commerce platform because most sellers do not have a professional photo studio to shoot decent product images with nice backgrounds and almost none of them are Photoshop experts and even if they are, they don’t have time for doing the techniques for each and every item they sell.
eBay said that this feature will be integrated into the smartphone app so when the sellers upload the images of their products, this tool will automatically separate the main item from the background. Eventually, this will make the image professional looking. The best part is this tool will also provide manual controls to remove background part if the seller feels that some parts of the background are not sensed by the automatic detector.
eBay also said that this tool can also help with Search Engine Optimization also as listings with cleaner images will tend to get more clicks. As of now, the feature has been rolled out for both the iOS and Android users but only in Australia, Germany, the US and the UK. Other countries will get this feature in the coming months.
