According to reports, Audio-Technica ATH-WP900 portable wooden headset is now available for sale and it has been tagged with a price tag of 5999 yuan. Audio-Technica, the 58-year-old Ohio based company which is known for its professional microphones, phono cartridges, and professional headphones, displayed as many as three new over the ear models over the weekend at CanJam NYC 2020 event.
Quite interestingly, all the 3 models featured earcups made of exotic wood. The three models are ATH-AWAS, ATH-AWKT, and ATH-WP900 respectively.
The ATH-WP900 uses a 53mm DLC diamond-coated dynamic diaphragm which is nearly double the size of the traditional portable earphone diaphragm. An Audio-Technica official said that the large size unit brings a fuller low frequency and loose sound field. ATH-WP900 uses a new magnetic system and baffle design. The device weighs only 243 grams.
WP900 uses 2 inches DLC coated drivers with a top-mounted PCB construction. The baffles are angled to improve airflow between the front diaphragm and the rear diaphragm so that the earcups are positioned not only in a comfortable manner but also with sound containment.
Moreover, two detachable 3.9-foot gold plated cables are incorporated for use with phones, and other digital audio players respectively.
The unit has higher energy supply efficiency, lower loss. It has an impedance of 38 ohms only and a high sensitivity of 100dB / mW. The bottom of the headset adopts the iconic A2DC interchangeable wire design of the Audio-Technica HIFI series which can be used to replace the original 4.4mm interface balanced wire that comes with the package.
Presently the Audio-Technica ATH-WP900 has not been listed on the e-commerce platform yet.
