Last year, Samsung kicked off its foldable smartphone journey with its Galaxy Fold. The company released this device alongside the Galaxy S10 lineup. Now, after almost a year, the South Korean tech giant has come up with its second-generation foldable handset, Galaxy Z Flip. Interestingly, even this time, it got released alongside the Galaxy S20 lineup.
Galaxy Z Flip comes with a different form factor than the Galaxy Fold. It has brought a traditional clamshell design that is similar to that of Moto Razr.
Today, Samsung has released its concept foldable form factor which was first showed off at a developer conference in 2019 alongside Galaxy Z Flip. Galaxy Z Flip is not only sleek and attractive with its prism gradient and purple color variant but it seems durable as well. In this handset, the hinge is now completely hidden. Moreover, it now adds fibers that block dust. There is a physical fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button. The volume switches are positioned at the right, while the USB Type-C port is positioned at the bottom along with stereo speakers.
As far as the display is concerned, Galaxy Z Flip comes with a 6.7 inches Full HD+ OLED display. The display offers an aspect ratio of 21.9:9 with its 1080 x 2636 pixel resolution and 425ppi pixel density. Reports suggest that this device is going to be the world’s first-ever first smartphone with a punch-hole foldable display.
In order to give the new handset more protection, Samsung has come up with a new protection layer called UTG. It makes the display not only more durable but also less prone to scratches and other damages.
The handset houses a 10 MP (f/2.4) selfie camera. The selfies shooter got an upgrade in the form of Flex Mode. The dual cameras on the outside are a 12 MP (f/1.8) primary lens and a 12 MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle lens.
Apart from the foldable display on the inside, Galaxy Z Flip also comes with a 1.1 inches Super AMOLED display right next to the dual camera. The company calls this Cover Display. This display will show time, notifications, incoming calls, and others. Users will be able to use this display to take selfies also.
Galaxy Z Flip is powered by a Snapdragon 855 Plus chipset along with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. Some reports suggest that the company might collaborate with google to adapt its OneUI 2.0 experience for foldable. Galaxy Z Flip is based on Android 10.
Galaxy Z Flip is backed up by a 3300 mAh battery which is split into two halves — 2375 mAh in the bottom half and 925 mAh in the upper half. Currently, Samsung is offering a 15 W wired fast charging and 10 W wireless charge option for this handset.
As far as price is concerned, Galaxy Z Flip comes with a price tag of US $ 1380 (which is around INR 98500) and it will be made available for sale from 14th February 2020 onwards. It will come in 3 attractive color variants: Mirror Purple, Mirror Black, and Mirror Gold.
