Earlier this month, Taiwanese fabless semiconductor firm, MediaTek announced Helio G70 and G70T mobile processors and now it has unwrapped Helio G80 SoC. Helio G80 is aimed at budget mobile gamers. It comes with the company’s HyperEngine game technology to boost the mobile gaming experience.
MediaTek in an official statement stated that the SoC will also offer “premium features for cameras, connectivity, multimedia, and industry-leading AI performance”.
Helio G80 is integrated with a pair of ARM Cortex A75 CPU cores which operate at frequencies up to 2 GHz along with six Cortex A55 cores in a single, octa-core cluster. This cluster is interlinked and shares an L3 cache which boosts performance in turn.
Apart from this, the Helio chip also comes with an integrated ARM Mali G52 class graphics processor which offers a boost speed of up to 950 MHz.
Like Helio G70, Helio G80 is also based on the same 12nm TSMC FinFET technology and it supports up to 8 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and eMMC 5.1 storage.
Connectivity options include 802.11ac Wi-FI, dual 4G VoLTE with carrier aggregation, and navigation systems include Beidou, Galileo, Glonass and GPS.
The company also claims that unlike Helio G70, Helio G80 will come with enhanced AI performance that will boost its popular AI camera tasks. Some of the Ai camera tasks are object recognition with Google Lens, scene detection and segmentation with background removal, Smart Photo Album, and Bokeh-shots.
Apart from this MediaTek also confirmed that the new Helio G80 chip will come with MediaTek NeuroPilot support and it will be fully compliant with Android Neural Networks API. Device makers and developers get various kinds of supports from these Android Neural Networks APIs for many common AI frameworks.
