Google, last week added a new design for the desktop search that adds site favicons to all the searches that did not go well with the users. As a result of the backlash from the users, they announced the new updates in desktop search results last week through a tweet.
A favicon is a file containing one or more icons which will lead the users to a website or a webpage. It can also be called a URL icon, Bookmark, tab icon, website icon or a short cut icon.
Google tweeted that they have heard the feedback from the users and they are going to test new updates to favicons on desktop. Their tweet read “Last week we updated the look of Search on the desktop to mirror what’s been on mobile for months. We’ve heard your feedback about the update. We always want to make Search better, so we’re going to experiment with new placements for favicons”.
Google added that they are starting the experimental icons and in the coming weeks while they test, some users might not see the favicons and some of them might be able to see them in different placements. They are trying to bring a modernized look to the desktop.
A lot of Google users, searchers, SEOs and SEMs have criticized the desktop search changes. Google said that “Our early tests of the design for desktop were positive. But we appreciate the feedback, the trust people place in Google, and we’re dedicated to improving the experience”.
Google added that web publishers like their brand icons to be added to the favicons. Google is experimenting with changes in current Favicons and said they will continue to iterate the design over time.
