Amidst dwindling sales in an increasingly competitive two-wheeler market in India, Bajaj Chetak got phased out in initial years of its launch and now it has made a comeback at a brand new avatar.
Under the company’s Urbanite EV sub-brand Bajaj Chetak was officially unveiled back in October 2019 and now it will be made available for purchase in India. One can pre-order the Bajaj Chetak Electric Scooter from 15th January 2020 onwards.
Bajaj Chetak comes in six variants and there are two model lines. The two model lines are simply urban and premium. According to news, the most affordable3 variant of the two-wheeler is tagged with a price tag of INR 1 lakh.
As expected, Bajaj Chetak has been designed and developed in-house by Bajaj Auto. Bajaj Auto has focused solely on the motorbike segment for over a decade with key two-wheeler brands like Discover, Avenger, and Pulser. In fact, various variants of each of these brands were released for the Indian market throughout the years.
Bajaj Chetak not only marks the return of the company to the scooter market but also marks the company’s entry into the electric vehicle space which is still in its infancy in India.
Bajaj said that Bajaj Chetak will be rolled out all over India in a planned and phased manner and the roll-out event will start from cities like Bangalore and Pune. It seems Bajaj would first like to gauge market sentiments before expanding into other cities. Initially, it will be available at thirteen pro-biking dealerships in Bangalore and four pro-biking dealerships in Pune.
