Intel showcased DG1 GPU at CES 2020 event

Today, VideoCardz reported that Intel has finally announced its DG1 standalone display prototype. It uses a single fan design and does not require an external power supply. The Intel DG1 shell seems to be made of metal, with a backplate and an LED light inside.

The DG1 is based on Xe architecture. Xe architecture powers Intel’s integrated graphics on the upcoming 10nm Tiger Lake chips. According to Intel, Xe graphics architecture on Tiger Lake will deliver doubled graphics performance compared to its previous generation chips.

According to the presentation of the slideshow, these graphics cards will be divided into three levels. Intel DG1 LP series is consumer level graphics cards. They are subdivided into game level, PC mobile level and slim mobile level. As of now, this prototype graphics card has been sent to developers to optimize performance.

A few days back, Lisa Pearce, Intel ’s vice president of graphics architecture and software previewed Intel ’s first Xe-based discrete graphics card.

At the CES 2020, Intel officially announced that this graphics card is codenamed as “DG1”. The company did not provide any further details of the graphics card but showcased a live demo of Destiny 2 with the GPU.

Tom’s Hardware reported that DG1 will simply be a discrete version of the integrated graphics coming with Tiger Lake but the company might be looking forward to take advantage of its synchronized CPU / GPU solution.

Intel did not hint anything when to expect devices powered by the DG1 but revealed that the first Tiger Lake chip with integrated Xe graphics is expected to ship later this year.
