Samsung has sold a reasonable number of Samsung Galaxy S10 and Galaxy Note 10 handsets in 2019 beating all expectations. They have sold 6.7 million handsets of these 5G phones. This number might not seem large considering the popularity of the company but is definitely better than expected.
Other than the above-mentioned sets, flagship Galaxy Note 10+ was also a hit in the market and later on, Galaxy A90 5G and Galaxy fold 5G were launched, all in 2019.
At the IFA 2019 summit, Samsung had sold only 2 million 5G devices and later expected to sell a total of just 4 million sets. Samsung claims that its devices count up to 53.9% of the 5G phones in the global 5G market.
5G is expected to be popular in the smartphone market in 2020 unlike the case in 2019 where the 5G phones were not quite popular. This year, Qualcomm’s flagship snapdragon 865 processor will make support for the next generation networks across Android flagships. An increased number of 5G selling in the market will make the customers interested in using the device.
Therefore, instead of offering a separate 5G model for the new Samsung Handsets(probably S11 or Note 11), the smartphones will already support 5G thus helping them to boost the sales.
There are rumors of a 5G iPhone in releasing in 2020, which will increase competition for Samsung and breakdown its market share. The ease of supporting 5G will bring about many more competitors into the market.
