Throughout the last week, Chinese tech giant Oppo continued to tease its upcoming custom software skin. Now, it has finally unpacked ColorOS 7 at an event in China. More or less, everyone expected a stock-ish UI experience from Oppo but it seems that the company likes to stick to its custom icon and font designs. The new OS skin comes with a refreshed interface, improved performance, and some newly added features.
As far as visuals are concerned, Oppo carries forward ColorOS 6’s borderless visual concept with a simpler and lightweight UI in ColorOS 7. New additions include “Oppo Sans” font, more white space, redesigned icons, and a softer color scheme to reduce visual fatigue. Oppo disclosed that it has recently developed a new quantum animation engine to provide improved visual interaction. Art+ wallpaper offers users a wide range of options as well.
Just like Apple, Oppo also revealed performance improvement in terms of percentage for ColorOS 7. The new custom skin brings 15% better touch response, 25% improvement in app startup, 40% efficient RAM utilization, and 19% improvement in term s of gaming.
Apart from some more background optimizations to enhance the overall experience, Oppo added Focus Mode which was previously eased on Weibo. Utility of Focus Mode is similar to that of Zen Mode of the previous generation Oppo device. With this, when the phone connects to your car’s Bluetooth, it will automatically switch to DND mode.
Oppo introduced Soloop video editor. It uses an image algorithm to scan your video recordings. After this, it singles out the good section and automatically joins them, applying effects.
As far as the camera section is concerned, the new OS skin comes with Polar Night Mode. With it, you will be able to shoot stunning pictures even under low light conditions. It also uses multi-frame noise reduction!
Most Chinese mobile manufacturing companies have their own voice assistant. So far, Oppo had no personal voice assistant. With this skin, the company has introduced “Breeno Voice” which understands complex commands.
Oppo has introduced a “new file transfer protocol” with ColorOS 7 that will work across Oppo, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi devices. Some other added features include a new shortcut to capture screenshots, and a flashback button to switch between a game and messaging apps.
The company said ColorOS 7 update will be released by this month. The beta version will reach 3 devices on 25th November and the devices are Oppo Reno Ace, Oppo Reno 10x Zoom, and Oppo Reno. By the end of Q2 of 2020, as many as 20 devices will get this update.
