Microsoft Windows 10X OS announced for Dual-Screen Devices: Key Features

Microsoft announced updated for its existing hardware lineup in its annual Surface Hardware Event in New York. Microsoft has come up with Windows 10X which is a new version of Windows 10. Also, the interface won’t look the same as Windows 10 or Windows 10 S also, Windows 10X is a dedicated operating system for foldable devices with both single or dual screens.

The company has also announced a new dual-screen device called Surface Neo which will go on sale before 2020. Surface Neo will be compatible with Windows 10X. Windows 10X is called “an expression of Windows 10,” by the company. Windows 10X has been inspired by smartphone and tablet views. The first devices to use the Windows 10X operating system will be powered by Intel processors.

Microsoft said that it is announcing both hardware and software so that the developers get to access and test it before the launch. One of the highlights of Windows 10X will be the improvement bin battery life to support the dual screen.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Windows 10X is work on making Windows 10 more modular so that a part of the earlier OS can be used. Windows 10X is the continuation of the architecture of Windows 10. The company claims that the new OS is the same as the previous OS but with some changes that make it adaptable with the new hardware. The company says that it’s a“Flexible experiences with a wide range of input types and hardware postures”

Users will be able to place the start menu on either panel and similarly, they can even use the start menu from any panel. Users can move apps across the screens. Windows 10X will allow any application to run whether Progressive Web Apps (PWA), Universal Windows Apps (UWP) or Win32 application.

Windows said that users don’t have to do anything to make their apps work, Windows 10X will do it by itself. Windows 10X also makes use of Neo’s keyboard cover. The keyboard covers half of the screen and the top area above the keyboard is called the “WonderBar”. It’s an area where users can access emoji, GIFS, YouTube and Netflix.

Microsoft 10X will have many new features. The users don’t have to do anything for the applications to work in 10X, Windows 10X will do it by itself. Additionally, the updating process will be less time taking according to Microsoft which will be one of the key aspects of 10X.

About the availability, Windows 10X will be available in the fall of 2020 for dual-screen devices and other foldable smartphones. The company also mentioned “These will include both Microsoft Surface and devices from several Windows ecosystem partners including ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo. The first wave of devices will vary in size, design and specs, and be powered by Intel.”
