    Instagram has come up with new feature “Restrict” to prevent bullying

    -

    Social media is facing a lot of bullying and abuse these days. Privacy settings are not able to curb this. Instagram has taken a new initiative to reduce abusive content and online bullying. They have come with a new feature called “Restrict”. To restrict an account, users can select the “Restrict” option from the comment which they find abusive. This will restrict that comment

    Instagram tweeted, “Starting today you can protect your account from unwanted interactions with a new feature called Restrict. This is just one of the ways we’re empowering our community to stand up to bullying.

    The user cannot actually block another account but the “comments on your posts from a person you have restricted will only be visible to that person,” according to a blogpost by Instagram. Even the messages from the restricted account will not be in the message section. It will be sent to the message request section even if the user had a conversation with the restricted account earlier.

    The feature will be a boon for female users, journalists, and celebrities who have to face a lot of hateful and disgraceful comments and messages on their Instagram accounts. The restricted account holder will not be able to find out that they are being restricted.

    Users are able to restrict in three ways:

    1. Select the comment or swipe left, on the top left there will be an option to Report or Restrict.
    2. Open the account of the person you want to restrict.
    3. Go to Settings->Privacy -> Comments ->Block Comments From

    A lot of media platforms are coming up with policies to restrict bullying and abusive content. It is one of the most important steps required at this time. Do share your thoughts on this in the comment section below!
