Yesterday, Hong Kong based media HKEPC has revealed the features of upcoming SMD chipset, AMD B550. The features of the chipset are mentioned in its review of ASRock’s X570 Creator motherboard. The “B” series AMD Chipset family are moderately priced. AMD B550 chipset will come with PCIe 4.0 platform support. This massively increases performance to expansion devices.
It also supports USB 3.2 Gen2 hardware. It is going to come with 2x USB 3.2 Gen2, 6x USB 2.0, 4 + 4 SATA3 connections. The two USB 3.2 Gen 2 connections have a speed of up to 10 Gb/s. As far as compatibility is concerned, we can expect the upcoming AM D chipset to be compatible with all generations of AMD Ryzen series processors.
Now, let us compare it a little on par the X470 chipsets. The X570 supports a PCIe x4 link whereas the B550 chipset supports PCIe X3 link. The target user of B550 is mainstream while that of X570 is Enthusiasts only. The X570 chipset comes with 8x USB 3.2 Gen2 support and 4 USB 2.0 support.
On the other hand, the upcoming B550 comes with 2x USB 3.2 Gen2 support and 6 USB 2.0 support. As far as CPU interconnection is concerned, B550 supports x4 Gen3 while X570 supports x4 Gen4. Also, the X570 packs as many as 12 SATA III ports while the B550 holds only 8 SATA III ports. The B550 chipset still offers more storage capacity than the previous model of the “X “ series, X470. The X470 chipset held only six SATA III ports.
