Back in 2013, Razer launched Edge Pro. It is the first gaming device with detachable controllers ever. However, since the release of Edge Pro, Razer has not come up with a similar product or upgraded version.
Just a few days ago, Razer was once again back in news with it’s new Razer Blade Stealth. Razer released two back to back gaming handsets in 2017 and 2018 respectively and it completely went on hibernation mode. Now, it seems that Singapore based company still has some smartphone ambitions.
Recently, it has patented some gadget which has a striking similarity with Edge Pro. In fact, it looks more refined than the Edge Pro.
Razer applied for the patent back in March this year at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. It was only last month that it got published on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

Interestingly, the patent depicts something similar to an idealized Nintendo Switch. The gadget flanking a large display is equipped with two controllers which are magnetically attached to the display. It seems that the controllers communicate with the hardware through a USB HID. Moreover, each controller sports a battery just like the Joy-Cons in the Nintendo Switch.
The patent titled ‘Gaming Controller For Mobile Device And Method Of Operating A Gaming Controller’ also mentions specifications like analog controllers, directional buttons, four action buttons, shoulder keys, and multi-function buttons.
The patent describes the device not as a games console but as a hardware gaming controller. The patent says “for use with a mobile device with for gaming applications”.
Now, this means it is not going to be a standalone device rather it will be just an accessory. It should be noted that, though finally, most patents are never brought to market, it is possible that Razer will release a Wii U GamePad style controller along with its next smartphone.
