Xiaomi has been facing a lot of dejection by the plethora of ads that are seen on its device. Xiaomi tried to monetize the interface by introducing ads, but it has faced a lot of rejection by the user. To bring a user-friendly User Interface (UI) Xiaomi is planning to get rid of the ads in its new UI.
The company is planning to introduce an “Ads Switch” option in the upcoming MIUI 11 so that the user can restrict ads when required. The feature will be available in the next software update. CEO Lei Jun said that MIUI 11 will drop the number of adds ads and remove the vulgar ads too.
The release for the new build of MIUI is still not announced. It may take some time to be incorporated in the global build since it is going through a testing phase in MIUI China build. “[Xiaomi] can confirm that [ad switch] is being tested. MIUI in China will be rolling out an update with an option to switch off display ads with MIUI 9.8.29. This will affect system apps (such as Calendar, installer, Download manager, etc.). As for a rollout timeline, I’m afraid there isn’t any that I can share at this point”, said a Xiaomi representative to Android Authority.
The switch for disabling ads could be accessible from the mentioned path: Settings > Privacy Agreement, etc > System tool Advertising.
Manu Kumar, Xiaomi India Managing Director, in an interview with Gadgets 360 claimed that ads are important for the company’s revenue. It would be interesting to see how this new feature is going to affect the company in monetary ways.
Meanwhile, the company is celebrating its sale of 100 million smartphones in India. “I am extremely thankful to our 100 million smartphone users and we promise to keep working hard on delivering impeccable user experience across product, after-sales and retail verticals,” said Jain.
