Just a few months back, during the launch of Huawei P30 series handset, Huawei announced a partnership with a Korea-based fashion brand, Gentle Monster. As per reports, both the companies were working on making the first smart glass, AR/VR glass for Huawei which is expected to look similar to that of a sunglass at first glance.
Back then, the company mentioned that AR glasses would come with a built-in Voice Assistant. Users will also be able to make calls with the smart glass with the help of built-in microphone and speakers. The smart glasses are IP67 certified which means they are water and dust resistant. The Huawei smart glass will be backed up by a 2200mAh battery and one can charge it through the USB Type C port or wirelessly.
Some new trademark applications filed by the tech giant hints that the development is complete and it might get revealed at IFA 2019 event. On 14th August, Huawei Technologies filed two trademarks application to European Union Intellectual Property Office and UK Intellectual Property Office. The name of the applications are Huawei VR Glass and Huawei AR Glass respectively. The applications were categorized as Class 9 with the description mentioning smart glasses, eyeglasses, 3D spectacles, smartwatches, and smartphones.
It should be noted that the applications were submitted by Forresters from Munich, Germany, which is indeed the same company who filed applications for the names Cine Lens and Huawei SuperSensing Camera earlier this month. The mentioned applications were most probably for Huawei Mate 30 which is expected to come around October this year.
Though Huawei has not revealed any launch date yet, we can expect it to be launched in the upcoming IFA 2019 event since these are official now. The IFA 2019 event is scheduled on 6th September at Berlin.
